Since 1992, the creation of Blue Sanctuaries across Cuba has succeeded in preserving and protecting massive areas of pristine marine habitat. Starting with Jardines de la Reina and continuing throughout the country, this model has fostered an overwhelmingly positive environmental and humanitarian impact felt throughout the Caribbean. Achieving comprehensive protection of this extraordinary natural heritage -flora, fauna, endemic, migratory, and endangered species within the marine park- will continue to be the primary goal of all collaborators involved.
To ensure long-term conservation at Jardines de la Reina over the next decade from 2026 to 2036, it is crucial to further regulate and limit the number of access licenses per season while also implementing fully protected zones where human access is prohibited or strictly monitored. This change in effect, will maintain and enlarge biodiversity while continuing to provide an avenue for visitors to experience natural richness that is sustainably preserved while having a positive ecological impact on not only Cuba but the rest of the Caribbean.
Looking ahead to 2036, it is imperative to strike a delicate balance between human enjoyment and the safeguarding of this irreplaceable marine sanctuary. Those who are fortunate enough to visit this marine park will be greeted with a more intimate and exclusive experience, enhancing their connection to the environment while minimizing their ecological footprints. Only by maintaining strict access limitations can we ensure that future generations will also have the opportunity to witness the magic of Jardines de la Reina in its most pristine state.
